This page details a 2018-2020 project by Australian fan Alex Lanco to create an Evil Dead display room, containing many replica props and set-pieces, as well as displaying his huge collection. It's monumental project, more than worthy of its own page. As of January 2020, Alex's still adding to it, so this page will be updated as he sends over new photos. You can see Alex's collection in more detail on the Fan Collections page.

This all started a few years ago when I was trying build a replica of the wooden clock. Not being confident in woodwork, I didn't want to make it myself. I had some Styrofoam left over from my fish tank so I decided to make one out of that instead. It was only scraps, so I didn't put too much effort into it as I have never done any prop building prior to this. It was far from perfect but its sole purpose was to be a 'place holder' until further notice. Eventually this sparked my interest in custom prop making and give me an opportunity to add many unique items to my collection.

Being a life long Evil Dead fan & dedicated collector, my collection was already quite large. I got a little bored with the old shelves and posters on the wall look. I decided I wanted to make some sort of display for my collection. It all started out with a simple idea of making custom 3D video/cinema standees and scatter my collection between them. Foam is cheap and whatever I wanted printed was free so I put it into practice but I felt it wasn't working out too well which you can see in my earlier collection photos. Basically just a paper model. Then I came up with the idea of making a huge standee as a centre piece. Now having more spare foam lying around, about 6 months after I built the clock, I attempted to make a 1:1 scale The Evil Dead fireplace. Discovering some skills I didn't know I had, I saw some potential in this so I bought more foam and started making a second and better fireplace and it all took off from there.

The fireplace was working out well so then the idea became having the fireplace as the centre piece and to display the collection as if it was in the cabin itself, including a new clock, floorboards and a trap door. The sky seemed to be the limit in what could be done, so then I extended the display to 3/4 of my garage and that became the core of the display.

Everything you see below took me about 26 months since I started the test fireplace. This included (apart from the clock) photographing many screen shots, studying them and building what I see to the best of my ability. Due to no experience, many mistakes where made, many corrected, some of the pieces were painted up to seven times. Also during this process, my collection kept growing so my original ideas and core layout also had to change which created a bit of a challenge. A lot can change in in 26 months. My final decision was to create an Evil Dead style fan film centred around the collection with blood and gore and try to nail the Evil Dead vibe. I've put a lot of time, money and energy into this collection so this will be my official retirement. Evil Dead collecting has been a fun, but expensive hobby, due to most of the items being imported, and not to mention my collection is way too big for any room at this point.

All in all, I think it all worked out well. Although looking at it now, I could make some changes and improvements. I'm going to leave it as a reminder of my first attempt. Due to a recent flood in my garage, the whole set up had to be dismantled so I am unable to finish the videos at the moment. I will return sometime in the year with a new layout and make the video I wanted to make. This whole process ended up being pleasure and pain as well as a massive learning experience for myself. Having never done this before, none of this is was technically hard to make. If I can do it, so can anybody else. Here is a list of the items I made:
