Title: Movie Site in Tennessee
Post by: Drummerboy on August 21, 2007, 06:39:31 AM
Have any of you guys ever visited the location where ED1 was shot in Morristown, TN?  I went last fall.  The chimney is basically the only thing left of the cabin.  Seeing the movie again recently, it was cool seeing the outdoor shots of the cabin  - it looked eerily familiar & I knew I had definitely been in the right place!

Also - I read the 2nd movie was shot in an abandoned school in North Carolina.  Does anyone know where this is, or has anyone been there?

Cool site, thanks for the link.  Looks like those guys went just a few months before I did.  Since it was fall when I was there, no leaves were on the trees so everything was easier to see.  We actually heard gunshots while we were there, there must have been some people hunting nearby.

I uploaded one of the pics I took as my avatar!

I'm hoping to make the sacred pilgrimage there sometime before the year is out. Hopefully, everything will stay as it is for a long time, but I'm worried...those guys at the website said there were for sale signs everywhere when they went last summer.  :-\

One day I will also head up into that old place. But I recall in Evil Dead Bruce and Scott heading into the cellar. Does anyone know if an entrance to the cellar is still there? That would be cool to venture down there. Chances are though, that the cellar caved in.

the cellar wasnt there, it was a hole dug in the floor. The cellar scene were filmed on Robert Taperts Farm.

Sure I read in the ED Companion that they buried a time capsule out there.
Anyone found it?

Hello.
Thought i'd actually get off my arse and check this.
On page 73 of the companion.
Seems the boys celebrated big time after the long, difficult ED shoot.
They started a stupidly large bonfire, blew away EVERY prop in the cabin, and according to the book...

FINALLY, THEY BURIED A TIME CAPSULE IN THE AREA THEY'D DUG OUT BENEATH THE TRAPDOOR. IT CONTAINED "MESSAGES, NOTES, LITTLE TRINKETS FROM THE FILM, STUFF LIKE THAT".

So...
Look beneath the trapdoor?

Drummerboy.
That is sweet!  I would love to get the chance to visit the cabin and be standing near where ED was filmed.  I'm serious when I say that to me that would be a really cool vacation.  Knowing that part of the cabin is still there makes me wantl to visit there and take a picnic lunch or something and camp out in the woods near there.

Are you the same person on all the horror forums and the guy who invited me to your friend list on amazon?  I go by "the hand" on here, It's me Micah.   I'm a horror film fan like you too man.  Just wanted to say.

Cheers!

Look beneath the trapdoor?

I forget who, but, someone who used to post at deadites.net went on an expedition to the site-- literally took a shovel and a camera and dug around in that area. All they found were bottles and broken glass and such. No time capsule.

I'm pretty sure the whole thing was posted in one of the incarnations of this message board.

Hey everyone. I just re-registered (haven't been here in quite a while). Anyhow, that was actually me that went down there and dug up all that broken glass and garbage.  I've actually been there twice in search of the time capsule, and I'm about 98% sure that it isn't there.

First of all, the hole that I dug was much bigger than the original hole (which I believe was about 3 feet deep), and all I found was junk (I kept some of it though).  Also, I asked most of the Evil Dead cast about it at a horror convention, they told me it was just a rumor.  Which kind of makes sense because if you look at the picture of it in If Chins Could Kill, it doesn't look like they're burying it in the cabin floor.  I also recall checking the name of the photographer of that photo a while back and came to the conclusion that he would have been only 5 or 6 years old at the time the movie was made. Even if it was real, it would have corroded and rotted away by now, because it was supposedly just a wooden cigar box.

It was not a time capsule but a time traveling capsule -- it is there, just... not yet... ;)

Hi Micah!  That wasn't me on Amazon & this is really the only horror forum I'm on, but I appreciate the note!

Not sure if you can go camping around there, that movie site is actually on private property & there was a "No Trespassing" sign as we entered the woods.  Plus, like I mentioned before, we heard gunshots while we were there so it evidently is a hunting area too!

To the best of my knowledge, this is where the cabin is:

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&time=&date=&ttype=&q=martin+road,+Morristown,+TN,+USA&sll=36.225373,-83.375459&sspn=0.010282,0.019312&ie=UTF8&ll=36.226239,-83.373914&spn=0.010282,0.019312&z=15&om=0 (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&time=&date=&ttype=&q=martin+road,+Morristown,+TN,+USA&sll=36.225373,-83.375459&sspn=0.010282,0.019312&ie=UTF8&ll=36.226239,-83.373914&spn=0.010282,0.019312&z=15&om=0)

Although its 'Martin Road' thats marked (the nearest road i could add a
hyperlink to) the trail that leads to the cabin is on the right on 'Innman Bend
Road' around halfway between 'Quail Hollow Road' and 'Gregg Road'

More details directions can be found about halfway down on this page:

www.fast-rewind.com/evildead.htm (http://www.fast-rewind.com/evildead.htm)

Although I've never been there so this may be wrong!

Yes, that's the right place.  That's the same site where I got the directions from.

I'm really not a holiday type person, never saw the point. That said I really
would like to fly over from the UK and see the cabin site for myself at some
point. Is there anyone else reading this in the UK thinking the same thing, who
would honestly want to go over?

Just had a quick scout round at air fairs, from the couple of sites I've looked at
gatwick airport (for the filght only) to knoxville airport would be around £350 -
£400. don't know it theres a tourist season over there or whether the price
would be the same all the year round? anyone know of any special deals or cheap
websites you can post?
