The movie is supposed to take place around 1300 A.D., no? According to the Oxford English Dictionary (yeah, the big one), the definition of 'car' stood as: A wheeled vehicle or conveyance: a. generally a carriage, chariot, cart, wagon, truck, etc. (Now little used in this wide sense.)
The first time that they have the word documented and quoted in this use is around 1382, so you have to assume people had been been using for a long time before 1382. If the skeletons could see that the thing moved, and had wheels, they were perfectly able to classify it as a car.
