Details:
When Ash is escaping the pit, he grabs onto a moving chain (presumably one attached to the winch to move the spikes together) and it pulls him upward. But when we see him crawl out of the pit onto the ground, he is holding onto a non-moving chain that it anchored to a spike in the ground. We never saw this chain dangling into the pit previously; it looks like it was just placed there to help Ash climb out. This second stationary chain is also the same chain that Ash shoots to send the Deadite back into the pit.
