Having defeated the Evil Dead in the 20th
Century, Ash finds himself sucked through a time warp and into medieval
England where he is forced into battle with a whole army of renaimated
skeletons, flying Deadites and witches.
Played strictly for laughs, this final
installment of the Evil Dead trilogy is a disappointment, the franchise
completing its reinvention as broad slapstick farce. The gleeful sick
humour of the groundbreaking first film had already been watered down by
the knockabout comedy of Evil Dead 2 [1987] and by this
time, the series had largely given up on the horror and had again thrown
continuity to the wind [when did Ash become so grumpy and miserable?]. The
apocalyptic ending [not seen in all prints] is the most memorable
moment.
