Details:
Notwithstanding it's a great scene, but it doesn't make sense. Even assuming Ash could saw off a shotgun that easily, sawing it off with a chainsaw would leave the muzzle so jagged the gun would probably be dangerous to fire, and probably jagged enough for us to see in the movie. Certainly it would catch on things and be not nearly so easy for him to sheathe.
