The Story:
Evil
Dead 2 was released five years after the original Evil Dead movie. This
time around instead of making a true sequel director Sam Raimi remade the
first film although this just isn't your average remake. While it doesn't
continue exactly on from the first film it sets up the same story.
The first ten minutes are like a flash back of the first movie only
this time it ignores all Ash's friends. This time it's just Ash and Linda
who go to the cabin in the woods. When they arrive Ash finds a tape recorder
and a book. After listening to the tape Linda disappears. Soon she reappears
only this time she's a zombie. After a quick decapitation Ash must find
a way to escape only now bridge out of the forest has been knocked down.
From here it takes on from where the first film left off. Ash is trapped
and must once again survive a night in the cabin and once again face the
evil dead that lurks in the darkness of the woods all around him but not
before been joined by a group of people who one by one fall victim to the
evil.
Here
Raimi went for a more comic approach to the first movie and he does it
in style. The gore is really pumped on here but in a way when it doesn't
fall victim to the usual cheesy gory guts, instead relying just on blood and smoke which is part
of the reason it managed to escape censors which so many other movies fall
victim to. Flowing from bodies, hands and even the walls Evil Dead 2 is
the ultimate bloodbath.
This is the film where Ash gets his trademark chainsaw hand and double
barreled shotgun for dispatching the evil deadites. This film is like a
super gory, super sick version of the Three Stooges. It has all Raimi's
trademark work including the wheelbarrow camera and super fast camera movements
and put together with the over the top gore and his sick sense of humor
it makes for any horror movie fans dream. |
