10 Geeky Annoying, Fanboy Questions for Bruce
Campbell.
Mattt Potter goes for the title of
"Ultimate Film Geek" this issue by pestering
actor, Bruce Campbell, with questions only other
obsessive film geeks would care about. You are
soooo going to read this, don't deny it.
Mattt - I told a lot of people
that I was going to be asking you
10 questions and what should I ask you. The
number one question is...When the hell am I
going to be able to see Bubba Ho-Tep? Sure
we can catch it at some obscure film fest four
states away, but any idea when the normal people
are gonna be able to rent this sucker, or better
yet, see it in their hometown? I hear about it
everywhere. It must be doing somewhat well?
Bruce - This fall, there are
plans for a small theatrical release. Watch for
it here: Bruce
Campbell Online
Mattt - Okay, let's get this one
out of the way..... So, Sam Raimi seems to be
yapping to these obscure magazines and websites
on how he wants to do a shoestring- budget film
with you and Robert Tapert after Spiderman
2. "The Ladies of the Evil Dead" go around
to various conventions claiming that Sam has
told them that he is very interested in doing a
continuation of one of the greatest Bruce
Campbell vehicles ever made. For years, people
have been asking and, for years, the same thing
has been told to us over and over again. "Not
going to happen", "Don't hold your
breath"..."Don't you have anything better to
ask?" "I'm so sick of that question." Your site
even HAD a section that gave the official word
on the matter which went something like...it did
not make shit in the box office. Well now, it
has 5 different versions out on DVD. Action
figures that sell out before anyone can even
think about owning them. T-Shirts, Lunch
Boxes, Bobble Heads, Video Games, Comic Books,
Posters and a shit load of stuff I have never
heard of on E-Bay, so the movie has to be making
some money. I have to ask because everyone else
seems too afraid. I am not going to ask
"if"...any more..FUCK "IF"...I want to know
when!!!...WHEN are you going to make Moontrap
2?*slobbering and out of breath*
Bruce - We've already made it,
but it's being held in a time-lock secured vault
until 2009. That's all I can say.
Mattt - You heard it here first,
folks! CRAPMAGE EXCLUSIVE MOONTRAP 2 2009 BABY!
Walter Koenig RULES!
Mattt - How is it
that The Nutt House (the Nutty Nut) got a
DVD release, but Crimewave is still denied? I
know you guys hate Crimewave, but it's a hell of
a lot better than Nutt House. I have heard
Sam say that he hates Army of Darkness, and the
only reason he did the DVD was for the nerds.
Well, I think the nerds would dig
Crimewave too, don't you? Holy Shit, the Coen
Brothers and Sam Raimi? The movie is not that
bad. In fact, there are some awesome scenes in
it. I have seen it sell on E-bay for over 100
bucks! How much longer do we have to continue
to pay those prices? I know Anchor Bay would
release that sucker faster than an Evil Dead
fan would ask you if Moontrap 2 is coming
out. Can you talk Sam into letting Anchor Bay
release it?
Bruce - I agree. That might
happen in the next couple years. You never know.
It would be worth the commentary
alone.
Mattt - I remember, about
seven years ago, I e-mailed you if the Poster to
Evil Dead 2 had your eyeballs in the skull, and
you said "yes" they were your eyes. Can you
tell us NERDS anything about the poster,
who designed it, whose idea it was to put
your eyes on the skull, why a skull at all?
The poster really sticks out and it's creepy as
hell to look at. I was curious if you could
share anything about that? Wow, these nerd
questions are fun!
Bruce - The concept was an odd
combination of various ideas that all came
together from different places and people.
Advertising can't always be
explained.
Mattt -Okay, so rumor is that Sam
himself pulled "Within the Woods" at the last
minute from the Evil Dead special edition. Gosh
dang it. Ya know, it was kind of cool back in
the day when people asked me who my
favorite director was and I said "Sam Raimi"
and they would go "Who?" Now, everyone and
their pet cow knows who Sam Raimi is and they
all know how amazing of a film director he
is. In the fans’ eyes, he is infallible and,
no matter how bad or embarrassing Within the
Woods is, THE NERDS WOULD LOVE IT!
Doesn't Sam know this??? Bruce, what are your
feelings on that film? Did you want it pulled,
as well? Is this rumor bullshit? All these
questions within these questions count as
one question, right?
Bruce - Sam can do what he damn
well pleases and, aside from that, the film was
riddled with music that we didn't own the rights
to. That was, frankly, the biggest issue of
all.
Mattt - What was it like working
with Deborah Foreman? I've always liked her.
It's too bad she wanted too much money for the
Valley Girl DVD and now she is not on it.
Everyone but her is on it, I guess, even
Nick Cage. Lunatics: A Love Story and Sundown
are great movies. I guess they won’t ever
have a DVD of them with Deborah on them, either.
Did you enjoy working with her on those
flicks?
Bruce - I thought Debbie was
really fresh, and bright, and funny, and odd -
oh, and really cute - everything you want in an
actress, I think. She was really nice to work
with on both occasions - once as a co-star, and
once as a producer.
Mattt - Okay, so in the Evil Dead
2 Commentary, Scott makes a riff on your acting
in a scene where you are crying over Sheila. He
says..."He's crying because he didn't get
that part in Die Hard" Were you really up for
a role in that movie? Holy Crap, that’s as nerdy
as a question is going to get.
Bruce - No, I wasn't.
Ha.
Mattt - Okay, I can top it! I
used to e-mail you this question on a
regular basis and never got a response, or
actually, I think I did. You were like, "Quit
asking me that", or something. One of the gourds
hanging in the basement of Evil Dead 2 looks
like a skull. I mean it totally does. It’s
not just some nerd seeing some Wizard of
Oz/Pink Floyd sync. It's obviously a face of
some sort. Do you remember this, or am I
just a nerd seeing a Pink Floyd/Wizard of Oz
sync thing?
Bruce - Wrong. You spend too much
time going frame-by-frame.
Mattt - How many people have come
up to you and said they have tried to start a
chain saw with their mouth?
Bruce - None. There have been no
persons foolish enough.
Mattt - You’re right. It was
foolish and my teeth hurt afterward. Are we
still friends after this
interview?
Bruce - No. Good day,
sir.
