This was a project to assemble a definitive score to the 1979 John Carpenter film;
The Fog. It's is a combination of three previously released bootleg/retail scores; 'The Complete Isolated Score & KAB Radio Cues', 'The Real Motion Picture Soundtrack', and the UK retail 'Expanded Soundtrack', to give the most comprehensive score ever available.
The Complete Isolated Score & KAB Radio Cues
The Real Motion Picture Soundtrack
Expanded Soundtrack
Both bootleg scores and this composite score were all expanded far above the official Varese Sarabande retail soundtrack, partly down to some last minute changes to the film itself explained in a quote by John Carpenter below;
"I shot The Fog in April and May and then took a ten day vacation to Tahiti. When I returned, I rushed into the editing rooms at Samuel Goldwyn Studios to consult with Tommy Lee Wallace as to how the picture was cutting together. It was a disaster. Quite simply, the picture didn’t work. Numb with a horrifying loss of objectivity, I finished the editing and went to work on a musical score that I hoped would somehow save the picture. We dubbed The Fog in September, and finally watched the finished product. The movie I had made was clunky, clumsy and awful. The music was heavy-handed and obvious. With a mighty Herculean effort, Debra Hill, Tommy lee Wallace and myself re-wrote, re-cut, re-shot and re-scored the picture. In one month."
Because John did all of this so close to the release date AVCO Embassy Pictures had already given Varese Sarabande the original 'aborted' soundtrack. This would be the only version available to fans until 2000 when Silva America Records came out with their own edition, although this nothing more than a repackaging of the original, along with four bonus tracks tacked on so it could be released as 'expanded'.

CD cover artwork - folding front sleeve
I used GIMP 2.6.7 to design the CD cover and disc artwork, which heavily drew from the movie's Japanese poster. I've long admired Japanese poster design, and many posters, VHS & DVD covers are far superior to their western counterparts. The Japanese text is accurate as per the original poster translation, and uses various production photos/artwork.
To this day there is no official version of the real soundtrack except for those lucky few who own the 1995 Elite Entertainment 'Special Edition' Laserdisc (ID2846SU) which features a complete isolated score. It was this Laserdisc which served as the main source for the various bootleg versions, and indirectly, this project too.
