Thought people might be interested to see my process for making top handles and pull starts. The photos run in chronological order over around 5 hours work for a few parts orders I currently have.
You can see for the top handle; drilling, heating and bending the aluminium.
Cutting the wooden handles, angling both ends, drilling & staining. Normally I would buy in 1/2 1-inch dowel for the handles, but I was having trouble getting a hold of that, so I cut some 1-inch dowel in half instead using a circular saw (still the scariest piece of machinery I own!).
Cutting the handle rivets from coach bolts & glueing them in, and finally cutting & ageing all the fixings.
Then for the pull starts; cutting the dowel, rounding off the edges using a little holder I made, which goes in a drill, so I can spin the dowel as I sand it on a belt sander (makes the job much easier), drilling, sanding and staining.
These may be the last orders I'm doing for a while, as I was furloughed 3 weeks on & 3 weeks off, but now I've been switched to part time (3 days a week) instead so I have less spare time than I did. I might still fit in the odd order here and there though.
