Hey all, know it's my first time on here so please feel free to treat me like the shoddy amateur I am, but be gentle! lol I'm a film student in the UK studying cult texts. As part of my final year, I have to put together a case study of a cult film - and due to its sheer genius I've picked Evil Dead. What I'm really interested in is the interaction between the film and its audience. Just browsing round the site & the forums has helped loads - some of you guys are really dedicated, I'm lovin it! If anyone wants to contribute to any of the following topics, please feel free to post a reply - it'd really help me out & I'd massively appreciate it. Alternatively, if you'd consider yourself a real hardcore, practically obsessive Evil Dead fan and would be interested in speaking to me in a little more detail, please email me - lemee@hotmail.co.uk and stick 'Evil Dead fan' in the subject. Cheers in advance, people! x topics are: - What makes Evil Dead so great? Would you consider the film an important part of your life - why? - How many times have you seen Evil Dead? How do you watch it - with friends, alone, where, when, how often,in what state?! - When did you first see it & how? How old were you? What do you remember about the first time you watched it? - Has the way you think of the film changed since the first time you watched it? - Favourite scenes/lines? - Bruce as cult icon - what do you make of his other films, how would you describe him? - what Evil Dead stuff do you have? Would you consider yourself a collector?

- What makes Evil Dead so great? Would you consider the film an important part of your life - why? I think it would take a novel to describe how great these movies are. And yes the movie is very important to me, it was the movie that really got me into horror films and most important of all, introduced me to BRUCE CAMPBELL.
- How many times have you seen Evil Dead? How do you watch it - with friends, alone, where, when, how often,in what state?! I honestly can't tell you how many times, but on average I watch it atleast once a month. I really get into watching it when I meet someone who has never seen or heard of it. Its great watching reactions, especially to the tree scene.
- When did you first see it & how? How old were you? What do you remember about the first time you watched it? I originally first heard of it after watching Army of Darkness. I was around 13ish when my friend brought it over. After that, I couldn't quit watching it. I think I watched the whole trilogy 3 times in a row one weekend.
- Has the way you think of the film changed since the first time you watched it? Hmmm, if anything I would say that I just appreciate it more everyday. After seeing new movie after movie, there is just something about Evil Dead that keeps bringing me back that most, if not all, don't.
- Favourite scenes/lines? Probably my favorite is the card reading scene. My first time I saw that scene I was creeped out.
- Bruce as cult icon - what do you make of his other films, how would you describe him? Bruce has that appearence in person and on film that just, in my opinion, makes everything better. I will describe my first time seeing Bruce Campbell with a line from Superbad, "It was like the first time I heard the Beatles."
- what Evil Dead stuff do you have? Would you consider yourself a collector? I just mainly have most of the games, lunchboxes, some vhs and most dvd releases, posters, and some of the figures. Not the biggest collection, but I will pick up something Evil Dead/Army of Darkness if I see it at a store.

- What makes Evil Dead so great? Would you consider the film an important part of your life - why? The series has always been so much fun for me, personally. It's just a great, fun movie. You can load it up in the DVD player with some friends, and have a ball. It's that fun, that energy it develops for one person or a group, that really makes it something special. I have considered it an important part of my life since I first saw it. The character of Ash, and his psychological evolution from wimpy, background character to center-stage hero has intrigued me since the beginning, and a bit of my personality, much to the chagrin of my family and friends, was derived from Ash's own wit when I was younger.
- How many times have you seen Evil Dead? How do you watch it - with friends, alone, where, when, how often,in what state?! The first Evil Dead, I have only watched a handful of times. Evil Dead 2, and Army of Darkness, however, I watch at least 4-5 a year, and it has been this way for about 7 years now. I watch it alone for the most part, but when I can convince some friends to watch it during a movie night or Halo party, then I can enjoy it with a group, much the way it was meant to be enjoyed.- When did you first see it & how? How old were you? What do you remember about the first time you watched it? I couldn't possibly remember the first time I watched the movie. I believe I was 12, so about 7 years ago. A friend of mine at the time was obsessed with it, and convinced me to watch it. I was hooked from there on. I remember next to nothing about the first viewing, other than laughing my ass off.- Has the way you think of the film changed since the first time you watched it? I have changed my favorite from Army of Darkness to Evil Dead 2 since my initial introduction to the series. Perhaps one day it will change to Evil Dead 1 as maturity sets in. I have enjoyed this series deeply since I first discovered it, and my feelings toward it have never changed.- Favourite scenes/lines? Hmm... I love the pit fight scene in Army of Darkness, and the entire, uncut windmill sequence. For Evil Dead 2, my favorite scenes would be when Ash removes his own hand, and the fight at the end with Henrietta. For the Evil Dead, I love when the blender is incredibly loud for a little jumpscare, and when poor Ted Raimi was a stand in for Ash's legs during a few seconds of the movie. It just gets me how the scale was so off between he and Bruce Campbell.- Bruce as cult icon - what do you make of his other films, how would you describe him? I enjoy everything that Bruce is in, often because it has a quirky sense of humor that is hard to resist, if you're in the right mood for it. His more serious roles are often quite intriguing, just to see him get to really stress his abilities as an actor. He seems to be very self aware, and in no way conceited or a snob. I have never met the man personally, but in all of the interviews, or Q&A sessions I have seen of his, he seems very pleasant and fun.- what Evil Dead stuff do you have? Would you consider yourself a collector? I own numerous copies of Army of Darkness on DVD, the rare Movie Maniacs 3 Ash figure from McFarlane Toys, the latest NECA S-Mart Ash figure, Evil Dead 2 Book of the Dead DVD, and a very basic Evil Dead DVD, along with a VHS of ED2, and every videogame that has been made of the series so far, save for the Commodore 64 game. Besides a few postcards with pictures from the first movie, my collection is rather sparse. I do enjoy collecting memorabilia from the series, and I consider myself a collector. I hope some of that helps. Good luck on your project! . . .And thankyou for choosing the Evil Dead.

Hi, I'm new too so I'll be gentle, but anyway
- What makes Evil Dead so great? Would you consider the film an important part of your life - why? I think what makes Evil Dead so great, is that it is scary and forces me to confront my fear. Yes, I would consider the Evil Dead an important part of my life because, for the longest time, I got scared everytime I had to go outside I night, I was too scared. But now that I have seem the Evil Dead, and I figured if my idol (Bruce Campbell) could fight the woods, so could I.
-How many times have you seen Evil Dead? How do you watch it - with friends, alone, where, when, how often,in what state?! Somewhere between 15-20 times, I always watch late at night, by myself, and I am in Missouri.
- When did you first see it & how? How old were you? What do you remember about the first time you watched it? I was about 10 (3-5 years ago, whenever it came out on DVD) , I saw the film, late at night by myself (BAD IDEA WHEN YOU ARE THAT YOUNG!!), I remember not sleeping that night because I was so scared
- Has the way you think of the film changed since the first time you watched it? Yes, at first i thought it was so scary, but now when I watch it I just laugh at the amount of gore
- Favourite scenes/lines? My favorite scene is when they are trying to predict the cards, then Cheryl calls out 4 in like 4 seconds, and then they reveal she is a zombie, still thinking about it sends chills down my spine
- Bruce as cult icon - what do you make of his other films, how would you describe him? I would describe him as Jesus' and Chuck Norris' child, I also love his other film Bubba Ho-Tep and Burn Notice (although not a starring role for him.)
- what Evil Dead stuff do you have? Would you consider yourself a collector? I have a bunch of army of Darkness comics, but no I don't conisder myself a collector

What makes Evil Dead so great? Would you consider the film an important part of your life - why? evil dead is very important to me some may say its what makes me me! its so great because for me it was like nothing id ever seen before it was scary thrilling and hilariosly fake!! i think its so fantastic the way a bunch of guys a camera and some super 8 movies can spark off something as brilliant as the evil dead! - How many times have you seen Evil Dead? How do you watch it - with friends, alone, where, when, how often,in what state?! i couldnt tell you i watch it all the time i have it for psp dvd and video so ive got my options! lol usualy watch it alone because my friends dont understand. they see the film and thats it they dont see what i see. i live in england - When did you first see it & how? How old were you? What do you remember about the first time you watched it? the first time i saw evil dead i was 6. i went to my uncles and he had it on video the box looked great and my mum let me borrow it because im the sort of kid who loved horror and was aloud to watch it. i watched it that day and it didnt really affect me i watched it atleast 7 times and it went into the cupboard. it was only till years later when i bought it on dvd at the age of 11 i remembered how great it was and i understood it more and grew to love it! - Has the way you think of the film changed since the first time you watched it? yes as i said the first time i saw it i thought it was just a movie i liked it but it wasnt anything more than just another horror. then seeing it years later i realised what i was watching and grew to love it - Favourite scenes/lines? i loved the scene in which cheryl knows the cards and turns round with white eyes lvitates and attacks the group then eventualy ends up in the cellar also the laughing cabin scene with the moose in ed2. favourite lines are number 1 swallow this BANG!, number 2 lady im afriad im gonna have to ask you to leave the store, number 3 groovy and so many others they are just my top ones - Bruce as cult icon - what do you make of his other films, how would you describe him? can you belive i havnt actualy seen any other films with him in except spiderman i think hes a great actor and an amazing action hero and i think bruce campell will live as ash forever - what Evil Dead stuff do you have? - What makes Evil Dead so great? Would you consider the film an important part of your life - why? I am probably the odd one out here -- I didn't see Evil Dead until very recently, and even then only because I was reading Bruce Campbell's book (which I picked up just out of interest in the film industry) and I thought 'God he's going to go on about this thing I've never seen for ages, I better check it out' haha. The first time I watched it I thought it was good (the camera and sound especially, I also thought a lot of it was hilarious), but it wasn't really until I'd learned about the back-story of it and how it was made that it really caught my interest more deeply than that, being the same age as the guys behind the movie would've been at the time. Of course by the time I got to the end of the book I realised I had a few DVDs of things Bruce Campbell (Bubba Ho-Tep and Jack of All Trades) had been in and had never bloody noticed who he was. And then realised I'd seen him in Brisco County Jr, and Xena and Hercules as well, and STILL not noticed. Sorry Bruce XD
I joined the forum because I was having a hard time getting anyone in the general vicinity to talk about it with. I have a hard time finding an audience of people who want to talk about movies in the first place, nevermind cult movies, haha!- How many times have you seen Evil Dead? How do you watch it - with friends, alone, where, when, how often,in what state?! Not very many, actually -- maybe twice or three times counting with the commentary on? If I watch a good film, I'll watch it and take note of interesting camera angles and lighting and things, but if it's a great film I'll forget to do it the first time. I didn't forget on Evil Dead, but I watched it again to check out the camera a second time and it caught my imagination enough that I did a couple of sketches of Ash - When did you first see it & how? How old were you? What do you remember about the first time you watched it? It was 2007! Those dark days of yore. Over the summer I was having a crap time of it for a number of reasons, and I couldn't draw because I was in a lot of pain, so I ended up doing my damndest to learn what I could from films, so that when I went back to university this year I wouldn't have wasted my time (I hadn't, I feel much more confident now for having done that). Part of that was grabbing Bruce Campbell's book to see what someone on the inside had to say about things (really the title was what got me interested, I had no idea who he was), and so I felt obligated to find out what he was on about with Evil Dead. I knew enough about it to know that there were three of them and that Ash was some kind of chainsaw toting, shotgun wielding hero guy, so when I actually got around to seeing the first one I was a little bemused as to how that was going to happen over the three films... - Has the way you think of the film changed since the first time you watched it? I agree with the person who said it's just a load of fun -- my favourite of the series is the second one, and it's the humour that really draws me in. I don't scare easily, so horror has never appealed if it wasn't something else along with it, you know? And I really get a buzz of inspiration from enjoying other people's work, usually, that increases as I understand it. That's not just for Evil Dead, though That's why I often end up with scrappy fanart, if something's on my mind and I just want to go ahead and use it.- Favourite scenes/lines? 'We can't bury Shelley, she's a friend of ours!' and Ash fighting his own hand in Evil Dead 2- Bruce as cult icon - what do you make of his other films, how would you describe him? I haven't seen many of his other films, actually -- Bubba Ho-Tep is one of my favourite films, though. It was before I realised who Bruce Campbell is, I have to admit, I must have seen him on television hundreds of times as well and never twigged they were all the same person. I think Bubba has some pacing problems, but the two characters worked so well together and with such conviction that I can't help but love it. I really like The Adventures of Brisco County Jr, too -- that was one I bought on DVD half from nostalgia and half from reading Bruce's book. Really, anything I've enjoyed with him in it has been a coincidence so far, I don't think I've ever gone off and gotten anything just because it had him in it that wasn't Evil Dead. I was a major Xena/Hercules nerd when I was about 13, too, haha!- what Evil Dead stuff do you have? Would you consider yourself a collector? haha no! I have the musical cast recording, and the trilogy on dvd -- I have a DVD addiction to feed, so I can't afford to really collect any memorabilia. I'd rather have films than figures and things, but I do plan to buy the adaptation comic that's just started coming out

- What makes Evil Dead so great? Would you consider the film an important part of your life - why? The Film is extremely important to me, as its inspired me to make my own film, i saw Evil Dead one and Clerks at teh same time and a combination of the 2 just hit me as brilliant. I Admire it as a film maker, as a viewer i admire it for being so good on so little money. ED2 is near as oerfect as a film can get to me. However unlike most AOD is probaly my least favourite of the series.
- How many times have you seen Evil Dead? How do you watch it - with friends, alone, where, when, how often,in what state?! Ive seen it over 30 times, i watch all 3 usually at least once a week in my room at night.
- When did you first see it & how? How old were you? What do you remember about the first time you watched it? i first saw it aged 12 and it blew me away. i was really badly bullied at the time and this film was like an escape. and also inspired me as i said b4.
- Has the way you think of the film changed since the first time you watched it? Its changed twice. once after i read the evil dead companion, and then i saw all the crudities (they pointed out) but for me taht just made me feel more like the guys who made it, liek they werent perfect. after i did advance media it changed again as i could see what they were doing more.
- Favourite scenes/lines? The Scene where Ash takes Cheryl down to the bridge in ED1. The laughing room, the first part in the wood shed, basically all of ed2.
and Of Course i qoute AOD ,mostly "groovy" and "Hail to the king baby".
- Bruce as cult icon - what do you make of his other films, how would you describe him? I Love most his other films, cept a select few (the love bug, assault of dome 4..) and ive seen most of the things he's in, cimply for him. Hes funny and great at acting and he always seems to be enjoying himself.
- what Evil Dead stuff do you have? Would you consider yourself a collector? t hsirts, figures, various dvds/videos, all the comics, PlUSHIES!!! but no im not really a collector.
