I'm looking to buy both Evil Dead films, but I'm having trouble deciding which edition to purchase. I'm not really concerned with the special features as much as I'm worried about the film itself. According some reviewers on Amazon.com, the standard re-issue DVD (the one with Betsy Baker (I think) on the cover, not the Book of the Dead Edition) is just the fullscreen version with black bars covering the top and bottom of the screen. In other words, it's not the authentic Widescreen version. Is this true? Is the picture quality of the Book of the Dead re-issue any better? Thanks!

I already bought Army of Darkness. I'm probley going to wait for the 25th Anniversary DVD (Coming Out Soon) to buy "Evil Dead".

You should definitely wait for the Ultimate Edition of the first film. It comes out in 8 weeks (just 56 days) so it's closer than you think. I already bought Army of Darkness. I'm probley going to wait for the 25th Anniversary DVD (Coming Out Soon) to buy "Evil Dead" There is no 25th Anniversary Edition of "The Evil Dead". I should know because I was born on the exact same day the movie premiered (Octobet 15, 1981, how cool is that?) and I just celebrated my 26th birthday about a week ago. |

There is no 25th Anniversary Edition of "The Evil Dead". I should know because I was born on the exact same day the movie premiered (Octobet 15, 1981, how cool is that?) and I just celebrated my 26th birthday about a week ago.
In America it came out April 15, 1983, According to Wikipedia. That new Ultimate Edition coming out is for the 25th Anniversary of the America release. Possibly why it is called "Ultimate Edition" instead of 25th Anniversary. Though it's an error, I've been reffering to it to everyone as "25th Anniversary" to everyone. |

The DVD comes out December 18th. The movie got a wide release in April 15th (For America). It's a little over 4 months difference. They don't always release the dvd exactly to the date.  As I said in a previous post, for America, it's the 25th Anniversary. Not for like the whole world. It's trivial.  |

But the premiere was in America, at the Redford Theater in Detroit, MI. That was in 1981.
Nobody but you seems to be claiming that this is a 25th anniversary edition and you simply can't arrive at that figure no matter how you base the release (and most sources like IMDB and Wikipedia count it as a 1981 release anyways) so I don't know why you insist that it is.

I call this anniversary because, my dad, who also like the series first saw it in 1983. It's just my nickname for the release, I'm not claiming that EVERYONE should look at it that way. There is no need to nag me because I've got a nickname for this DVD. I don't care what IMDB says it's release was, my family never knew about it until April 1983, the US theatrical release. |

I would just collect them all. Even if some of the versions are not as good in picture quality as others, it's cool to just collect all of them. Thats my goal anyway. |
