Does anyone know the length of the barrel on the Boomstick? If it had a set length. I noticed it changed a couple times. At one point its about 1.5" past the fore grip of the stock, and at another point it looks to be a good 8" past the stock. I tried searching with little luck. Most I found was the federal length of 18". Which isn't much help as Hollywood isn't a place for laws...

If anyone cares why I'm wondering, I play paintball. A lot of us in the paintball world (mostly the old farts Grin) are Evil Dead, and Ash fans. Including myself. Which is why I decided to make a paintball Boomstick. Full break-action rifle. Which as far as I know has never been done. As it stands I plan to use 11" 3/4" barrels. I think it will leave a nice usable length but won't look to funky. Plus, its what I have on hand.

Based on a high quality version of this photo from ED2:

If you assume the chainsaw blade is 20" long, the barrel length is about 13".
I would think around 12" would be a good length but base it on the size of the
fore-stock, and add around 1-2" so the proportions look right even if the
barrel isn't exactly the same length

as a n00b who's never so much as seen a real gun in the first place, what does sawing off the barrel actually achieve? moar carnage?

Brilliant! I never would have thought of that. I figured worst comes to worst I could shorten the stock up to even things out.

BTW- Love the chainsaws! I'd love to get one later. It'd be the finishing touch for Ash costume with the Boomstick. I just don't have the hair.  Embarrassed

On a shotgun it will cause the pellets (BB's, or other size shot) to spread out more then they normally would. If you know a good machinist, you can have the barrel threaded for chokes which screw into the barrel and the shape of the choke effects the spread of the shot. This could be used to tighten the grouping back up. Even though a large spread can do more damage, it will do a lot less at range. It would pretty much be like shooting someone with a BB gun.

A shorter barrel on a paintball gun will do nothing more then make it louder.

Edit,

Guess I should throw a warning out there. Don't shoot people with saw'd off shottys!  Wink
