The fine folks at Optimum Releasing are putting out Evil Dead II and Army Of Darkness on UK DVD on September 22nd, as well as releasing ED2 on Blu Ray that same day.  No word yet on extras (if any) for these and whether the ED2 Blu Ray will have the same controversial Divimax transfer as Anchor Bay's one.  However, several shopping sites seem to confirm that AOD will be released in the "European edit", that's longer than the US theatrical version but still shorter than the Director's Cut.

In America, yes; in the UK, not so much.  Anchor Bay released it very briefly here some years ago but it's been out of print for a long time.

Yeah the 2 Disc edition was released in 2002, still waiting for an ultimate cut with every cut restored and a decent transfer, I hope the cover art is different this time around, they missed the "low on gas" line off the UK release as if we dont know what gas is!

Optimum have just submitted Army Of Darkness to the BBFC - and judging by the length of the film, it's the Director's Cut!  I'll wait until reviews to see if it's even better (or even any different at all) to the HK R3 MGM disc, but if it's the DC being put on to Optimum's Blu Ray release, that's going to be pretty damn special.

I've been looking around for a region 2 version of ED2: Book of the dead (i.e. the special edition with a rubber book cover.)

They have one for the first film, but ED2's version seems to be completely region 1. (In all the places I've checked anyway. I wonder if it was released at all as region 2.)

I'll admit, I kind like the look of the first film's cover better. More subtle. Second you get a screaming button though... a nice gimmick Wink
