"It's Ashley J. Williams, the ass-kicking, Deadite dismembering, Elvis impersonating, Housewares clerk."

-form the online Freddy Vs Jason Vs Ash commentary http://nightmareonelmstreetfilms.com/nightmareinterviewsfreddyvsjasonvsashcommentaryin.html

Dear Sir,

Where has this obsession with Elvis Impersonation come from? I've seen the Evil Dead series countless times and aside from a comment at the end of AOD "Hail To The King" I have never seen anything remotely similar to Elvis. In fact, HTTK is a reference to being a King in his mind and his own astronomical ego.

I say this because these constant Elvis references are beginning to wear as thin as the endless spew of AOD titles that neither continue the story or the character but endlessly rehash the same tired grating formula.

Shop Til You Drop Dead had Ash (for absolutely zero reason) dress up in an Elvis outfit. Was this entirely necessary? It just seemed like you thought it would be fun given Bruce Campbell's other film and you though fans would get a kick out of it. Well I'm a fan and I thought it was a shameless in joke that once more diluted the character. Then, Ash keeps putting on Elvis shades - once more WHY? It seems the only amount of growth the character has had since the end of AOD is he's now obsessed with Elvis. Good structure there on the character. Give it another ten series and what's next for Ash? Probably nothing I'd guess.

The AOD series began well, mainly due to the artwork by Nick Bradshaw, despite the constant usage of lines from the film slightly modified. It felt as if you couldn't write for the character so you just stole his words. There was an improvement but overall Ash has become a mess - a character I adored who is now a one note action hero incapable of damage.

I must say the overall improvement is FvJvA. Not the greatest book but you seemed to have started writing Ash better. He is more a confident hero instead of the one note prick you made him in AOD. But just as everything starts going well Freddy calls him an Elvis impersonator!!! WHERE DOES THIS COME FROM?!

Where is his human side? Where are his thoughts and feelings? Who is he? For the series to continue it must start establishing ONE THING... A story. A story builds a character. Plus continuity in the series is a joke and most readers I know get screwed off with all the jumping around. Establish a starting point, build Ash into a decent character, stop with the endless one-liners and quipping and for the love of every child PLEASE stop with the Elvis stuff.

You do realise Bubba Ho-Tep was a seperate film right? It wasn't Ash - it was an actor named Bruce Campbell. He impersonated Elvis - are we clear?

Shit. By mentioning that film I may have inadvertantly set cogs in motion that will bring us AOD Vs Elvis Vs Bubba Ho-Tep. May God have mercy on my soul.

In closing Mr Kuhoric I don't hate you, despite how mad I am right now, but I feel you have been given an incredible honor. As a result you should be doing your best to make this comic worthy of the name. And as most people with an opinion I am slightly jealous of your position.

Thanks for listening

Ian

ash is the type that would die if he ever let his true emotions out, he has witnessed so many atrocities in his lifetime he has to keep his feelings hidden. also, he had the chosen one title thrown on him, why can't he take it to his head. as for the elvis thing, the two characters have allot in common, which could be why ash emulates the king. hell, maybe elvis was an idol for ash

I agree - Bruce is the closet thing. But this shameles tie in's to other Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi properties is just makink me angry. Have any of the stories so far matched what would be worthy of a sequel to the franchise? In each film Ash is different which works - a coward in one - a fighter in two and a hero in three (albeit an egotistical one). But the comic Ash isn't a character until he develops and so far he is an annoying extension of AOD Ash. If I wanted an unstoppable hero with crappy one liners I'd watch any Jean Claude Van Damme film but I don't and if I see the title Army Of Darkness then by God I want something fun and scary with blood and guts  but deep down a character I can root for not constantly get pissed off at.

This Elvis obsession began as an idea by Kuhoric and his comment seems to claim it as fact. But I don't want to have my hero become a second rate Elvis impersonator. Ash isn't unstoppable either, just look at the scars all over his face! If the comic series is going to go anywhere it needs a little substance not a list of names on a wall with darts thrown at them...

Who shall Ash fight next? THWIP! The four horsemen of the apocolypse? BULLSHIT!
Reanimator, Darkman, Dracula, Frankenstein, Wolfman... THWIP THWIP THWIP!

Did anybody think Ash in the future was lame? That sending him into a bizarro Alice in Wonderland realm sucks? That bringing frigging Dracula into it as a Deadite was going too far?

I'm just happy to spend money on Evil Dead related stuff and will buy the series. But my constant disappointment will continue also until the series does something new. Explore the book! Go back to the beginning. Build a universe for Ash to fight in instead of constant Sliders portals to other worlds.

I'm spent. More rant later.
