Hi! Long time fan and first time poster to this board an was hoping this was the best place for help. I want to go as Ash for Halloween this year, but I've hit a snag with the best part of the costume. I've saved up some cash and was gonna buy a homelite xl off of ebay, but I can't figure out how to mod it to look like it did in the films. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Anything in particular you need to know? Because there's a lot of parts and techniques involved in it.

I just recently made a chainsaw arm that looks pretty good. I didn't use any parts from a real chainsaw, I used a one gallon milk jug for the body and a plyboard for the blade. A metal necklace made the chain. I cut a hole in the back and bolted a dowel on the inside for an inside handle. I used a dowel for the trigger handle on the outside and a dresser drawer handle for the forehand grip. Used elastics for a pullchain. I painted it red and the blade silver, like metal. The whole project costed me zero dollars. I recommend trying to make one from scratch. It'll probably be easier. Spend your money on something else.

PlaidPineapple, I need to know aLOT. Mainly if I have the right model, if so then how to get rid of the top handle/trigger, the proper way to make the hole for my hand to fit in, so basically everything and I am willing to do the work.

Well, for the very basics you'll need a Homelite XL. You could also use a Homelite Super II, which has an aluminum body- harder to work with compared to the regular XL's plastic body, but sturdier.

Getting the handle off is pretty straight forward. I'd first completely disassemble the chainsaw first, the use the cutting tool of your choice to cut off the handle and a round hole in the back. I usually then cut off anything off the top that pokes up since there is that metal plate that gets attached to the top afterwards.
The trickiest part of the build I find is that small silver/aluminum piece on the left side. Its not an actual part to anything. I think It was a gas cap they found somewhere when they wanted to cover the Homelite sticker.

You can PM me with any specific question of a build.

Why not just make one out of cardboard and tin foil and save yourself a lot of money and discomfort?

I get really hung up on details when I'm trying to replicate something. If I make it out of cardboard, I'll keep thinking of the movie version and how that one looks so much better. So it's more of a challenge for myself if I do it the hard way. True it'll be a pain in the neck and I'll get pissed while making it, but the payoff will be awesome!
