My favorite is Evil Dead 2. It's a great movie. Army of Darkness is VERY close, because it's when Ash becomes the smart-ass/bad-ass I see when I think about Evil Dead.

i chose evil dead i liked it better with the comedy left out
although the chiansaw hand is the greatest!
if that was in number 1 it would be brilliant!
also number 1 is the first 1 i saw and i fell in love with it!

This is a very tough one. I loved part 1 and 2. I would have to pick part 2 though. I happen to see part 2 first and I thought "the hand" was so cool! The part where the hand was under the can making the sounds and then runs off. If that scene was in part 1 then I would have gone with part one. I loved the more gore in part one.
Evil Dead 2 will always hold a extra special place for me.

It has to be Evil Dead II. If it wasn't for maybe the "tree rape" scene in the original, I probably would've gone with that; considering it did an absolutely amazing job with such a small budget. But there's no denying that Evil Dead II is just better. It's hilarious, scary, Ash looks the best (and I mean the BEST) and sometimes the violence reaches such an extreme that it becomes surreal.
Army of Darkness, while a little unusual, is still fantastic; although there's hardly any extremely graphic blood and gore to be found.

So what, people have different opinions. We're not wrong for preferring one thing over the other, it just means we're human beings with different taste. The Evil Dead really is fantastic, but there might be people (like me) that like the more tongue-in-cheek style and better quality of blood and gore in Evil Dead II.
