Well after 2 or so years I've decided to call time on EDC and close down. I started EDC as a fun pet project and to begin with I was excited with every new order that came in, but now I've started resenting it and dreading each order as its alot of work (and I have a full time job so EDC completely eats up my evenings & weekends)
Before EDC I very much enjoyed spending alot of time designing & developing various special effects props in my own time like retractable knives, squibs & such. There was a good number of ideas I couldn't pursue because I simply didn't have access to the tools/machinery needed to make them. One of the reasons for starting EDC was to enable me to fund a home workshop with things like a lathe, bandsaw & disc sander which should have allowed me to take many of my ideas further than I could have done otherwise, although when it came down to it, creating chainsaws used up all my creative energy and as a result I have achieved very little actual FX work. I used to keep a thick notebook of new FX ideas to try out & make and I was always making notes or doodling on some effect or other, but more recently every creative thought has gone into improving my chainsaws; the look, construction or parts. If I just soldiered on with EDC it would be easy just to let my work slip and not really care to put the effort in anymore and I wouldn't want to be in that position.
Now, drawing a line under EDC, will free up my spare time and creative energy to get back to doing what I love most, developing & prototyping ideas for special effects props and gags. I'll post a formal statement on the website in the next week or two and leave the site online for the foreseeable future so people can still look at my work, although I will not be taking any more orders from anyone. I may, at some point, post instructions of some sort to help out all of the people who've emailed me over the past 2 years asking for help in making their own chainsaw.
Thanks to all of you who bought chainsaws from me and the chainsaw currently on ebay will be my last ever. I hope everyone understands, and I'll still be around on this board under the same name and keeping the same email, just not making saws anymore.
Cheers all, Rob.
