Finally a trumped up over-hyped director with a cult following we can FINALLY agree on! I couldn't have put it better myself.

Thanksgiving was quite cool but it was 3 minutes. I could do a good 3 minute film. Hell, some people shit in a cup and call it art.

I much prefer DON'T. Dumb as a post and a little creepy too.

Although honestly, although IMO not an incredible film, Hostel 2 was a step up from the first. The characters were more defined and their predicament was creepier because you knew what to expect. The scene with what's-her-face getting slashed at whilst upside down was actually horrifying because she was screaming for her mother. Plus the B story with the two businessmen was clever but totally obvious. I'll never watch it again but I didn't have to wash after watching it.

haha I never saw Hostel 2, but unless it was a polarization of the first one I'm not going to watch it. I was reading Entertainment Weekly and he was listing a ton of old b-horror movies he loved, all of which were gore fests.... including Cannibal Holocaust and a few others (I'll look for the magazine)... To me he's just a dweeby horror fan who loves blood and gore and instead of making something with substance and a decent storyline, he goes for the shock factor with blood and guts... and eyes hanging from an optic nerve.

However this is my personal opinion, but I do agree 1000% with Names_Ash_Housewares about Thanksgiving! haha

I admit I bought Cabin Fever. I was intrigued at how some joe schmoe could make a film in this day and age where so many are willing but few are chosen. I listened to the commentary and found that he and I shared a lot of similar views on horror and the state of the genre. He almost stated verbatim what I had been spreading about how it wasn't taboo for a director to make horror anymore and how many directors got their big breaks in the genre.

But as Westcroft so aptly put filling a screen with blood and guts is nothing without a story and characters you actually care about. The guys in Hostel 1 are so damned pathetic that I genuinely wanted them dead while the girl in Hostel 2 I didn't which is where the difference lies. Eli Roth may be learning from his previous efforts.

My major gripe is that he is the king of hype. He bigs up his films as THE MOST SHOCKING THING YOU WILL EVER SEE yet his movies don't have the visceral punch of many 80's gore flicks. I count Street Trash and Blood-Sucking Freaks as 2 of the most disgusting films ever made. Magazines said Hostel 1 was the sickest film ever then revoked it after seeing the film, yet did the same thing for Hostel 2 all based on Eli Roth's word. And does anyone else think he's blowing Tarantino? He must have a great technique to still be working.

However if I ever get a dog I will name it DR Mambeau!

Plus at the end of the day both Eli Roth and Scott Speigel both have careers in film and I don't. However, as a bitter, twisted internet fiend it is my responsibility to "have a go" when I get the opportunity. If I had a film career I'd hope someone was bashing me on a forum. But only if I had a film career.

Uwe Boll, although he's probably my most hated director, I've recently tried to actually think about my hatred for him and not let it come to a pure raging white hot flash of anger which results in me losing my memory, waking up naked in a field taking swings at nothing and when I return home I find the bodies of my loved ones and pets hung from their feet and tails respectively.

It's been a while since I saw House of the dead, but watching again it's obvious that someone from the production company had like a retarded cousin who wrote the script and it was trying to be a campy b movie wannabe with matrix rip-off cinematography and like an odd reference to star trek, and when the cousin brought the script in the production company was probably too busy counting cash and just gave it to the first director they could find, some fresh off the boat German looking for work. "Alright does it have a title.... okay go film".

As for his recent movies, he's gotten better as a DIRECTOR. He isn't just sticking with plain shots and he isn't trying stupid far out shots that are distracting, he's getting to the point where he's not terrible at telling people where to point the camera. Some people blame directors for bad writing, bad casting, etc. Of course it is somewhat of the director's fault to not prevent the casting of Burt Reynolds in a medieval movie as a king, but it's not totally his fault... the producer let it happen as well.

Uwe Boll has and always will be my most hated director, but I can only hope he matures a bit as a filmmaker and actually tries to make a decent movie, and not just videogame adaptations... but yes, I'm not trying to defend him I'm just trying to critique him fairly instead of resorting to "DIE YOU FUCK!"... I want to be neutral or else... or... e.. AHH It's HAPPENING!!!! ... ...
