Just Got My ED Ult Ed

Just watched through this, It would be a good little pet project to edit together
all the raw footage from 'treasures from the cutting room floor' along with any
of the extra footage bits in 'one by one we will take you' featurette along with
the 20mins for raw footage from the old elite DVD.
From all the different bits you see of the raw footage it wouldn't suprise me
if AB had digitised the raw footage for the entire film and selected parts
to put together. Nor would it suprise me if at least one AB employee/fan
took a copy of the whole thing for themselves personally, along with within
the woods a while back (if its anything like the film industry I know in the UK).
I would 99.9% guarantee it will never see the light of day on the bootleg
trading curcuit, It would be more than their jobs worth, still thats one DVD
set I'd really like to have!
Again not even a sniff of any of the early raimi shorts. Even when the shorts
are specifically mentioned on the featurettes all we get are some photos.
This is much the same as the UK 4 disc box-set, On there was 'The incredibly
strange film show'. The uncut version has clips of within the woods & six months
to live among the interviews, but the new DVD version has all that edited out
along with no within the woods as a feature itself. Makes me think that the
'raimi not wanting them out there' theory might be true as it seems to apply
to all the shorts, not just within the woods
<begin rant>
I am a little irritated by the raw footage being in matted 1.85:1 widescreen,
It seems like AB are putting out stuff in widescreen for widescreens sake, with
no real thought about how this effects the film itself. maybe they think
people will read the DVD cover and see anamorpic widescreen and think wow!
evil dead in widescreen! not quite realising that AB have just slapped black
bars on the top and bottom of the original 4:3 open matte print. I don't want
to re-hash the old ED widescreen debate but if you listen to the commentary
track for the widescreen DVD they even refer to things that you cant see
because they are hidden under the black bars!
And don't get me started on the AB 2000 ED2 DVD which allowed you to select
either a 'widescreen' or 'pan & scan' version of the film to watch although what
they didn't say was that the 'pan & scan' version was acutally a 4:3 open matte
print and the so called 'widescreen' version was the 4:3 version simply matted
into 1.85:1, you saw more picture in the 'P&S' version than you did in 'WS'!
</end rant>
