Just read through this forum post:

http://www.horrordvds.com/vb3forum/showthread.php?t=31511

Thought I'd ask if anyone here has the 1985 Japanese Herald videogram
Laserdisc?

I've just checked my old palace pictures VHS release against my other DVDs
and the laserdisc screen cap. It appears to have the same framing as the
other later versions:

1985 Japanese Herald videogram Laserdisc

1990 Palace Pictures UK VHS

1999 Elite US DVD

2003 AB US DVD

1985 Japanese Herald videogram Laserdisc

1990 Palace Pictures UK VHS

1999 Elite US DVD

2003 AB US DVD

The poster seems to be right, the LD is the fullest full screen version around, you can
really see that if you look at the table lamp to the right in the above 4 pics.

After going through my post again, I guess I was a little confusing...

Are there any known vhs or dvds out there in the US that would have that transfer?

I've not found any, although until i saw the forum thread that pointed this out, I had no idea about the laserdisc. The framing issue may not be general knowledge, so I'm guessing no one has known it was worth bootlegging when there are supposedly identical DVD versions.

I havent checked the US original VHS but it would appear that all the other US/UK DVD/VHS versions have the same framing. I havent got any of the laserdiscs so I'm not sure about that.

I've PM'd the person who started the thread so I waiting to see if anything comes of that.

I would love to get a bootleg of the LD. The colors look so much better. That picture with Ash in the car looks sweet!
