People should be used to the remake-hollywood these days, MGM have announced they have plans to remake Robocop!?! Now that is blasphemy.

true but it still sucks because then a whole bunch of bastards will act like they know what it is when they probably have never seen it, the same goes for Clerks( which is my favorite movie), not to many people seen it but then when 2 ( which my 2nd favorite) came out everyone talked about it, it pisses me off!

Its not a matter if you dont like it dont see it I think its just sad that they have to remake movies just for the sake of doing it, as they have become too lazy to write and direct something new and fresh.

Why not just release the originals in the cinema again, hell they would make more money doing that then releasing a remake.

The only remakes I really like are The Fly and The Thing and atleast they were made when original movies were the norm and very few remakes were being made.

That is extremely questionable. Profit percentage-wise, yes they would make more. But, if you were to take The Omega Man and rerun it, then you could see maybe a million or two. But even with I Am Legend's high budget, it made a freak-ton of money.

Hell, take a look the Dawn of the Dead. You could rerelease the original and make a little more. The remake took in $102mil worldwide on a $26mil budget. You can't put up those numbers with a rerun.

Oh hell, here are some more remake totals:

Texas Chainsaw Massacre:
Budget - $9.5mil  Gross - $107mil

The Omen:
Budget - $25mil  Gross - $119mil

When a Stranger Calls:
Budget - $15mil  Gross - $66mil

The Amityville Horror:
Budget - $19mil  Gross - $108mil

Ok so maybe re-releasing some of the original verions making more money could be questionable, but look at the movies you mentioned and tell me if they are better than the original movie they were based off? Honestly...not even close.

Anyway thats all I have to say on the matter, I hate remakes, Joda loves em  Grin

Well once again, someone liking the remake over the original is pure opinion. It is hard to find remake lovers on an Evil Dead message board.

ok then this is all of are opinions, stop saying that we get it. Grin
And the thing that made good remakes like The Thing ,besides John Carpenter and Kurt, was that it wasnt a full on remake they have basically the same background but it goes differently and with other characters and places.
And yes this is once again my Opinion. Tongue

Oh, well thanks for laying that out for me.  I forgot that Dawn of the Dead and TCM were both straight up copies.

No, Dead by Dawn was a remake that was the same in some ways and very different in others, it was a way for Ash and the story to live on.

So Ash Plissken your saying Evil Dead 2 is a remake??? God if I have to go through the whole "Evil Dead 2 opening is a recap of the first movie" explanation again ill go crazy.

Ok here goes... When Sam Raimi started filming evil dead 2 he wanted to do a recap of what happened in the first movie to bring people up to speed but for some reason he couldnt get the rights to use footage from the first movie, and so had to refilm scenes from the first movie, but for convenience sake he only used and Ash and linda in the recap.

So basically Evil Dead 2 starts from where Ash is catapulted through the trees by the Evil force and the story continues from there.

Also I think Joda was actually referring to the 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead.
