DVD cover artwork - 43mm spine (click to enlarge)
This was a graphic design project to create a DVD cover & disc artwork for late 80s/90s UK children's TV show
Knightmare. The fantasy-adventure-puzzle style show ran for eight series, originally shown from 1987 to 1994. While a few odd VHS recordings still survive online, it has since been shown sporadically on UK cable channel Challenge TV, and complete a set of high quality captures were turned into a fifteen disc DVD set (not created by me, obtained through trades).
The original idea for this artwork came from a similar thumbnail image of a cover created by someone else for their set. My artwork replicates a black leather-bound book with embossed silver lettering. Asides from the channel/logos, all the other elements were created from scratch. Sixteen disc artworks were created, although series one only covers one disc rather than two.
It's worth saying that I'm a massive fan of the series, and this project was never intended to rip anyone involved in the show off. Although there is no official retail release on the horizon, this DVD is being kept strictly offline for physical trades only. As of writing, only one DVD case is available which will take all fifteen discs; a clear Amaray DVD Megapack. You can get them ready made up as fifteen disc cases on eBay for around £10, but it's less than a third the price to buy the 12-18 disc Megapack case, and the disc trays to clip in yourself separately.
