This was a project to design a DVD cover for the 1978 Sam Raimi Super-8 short film, and The Evil Dead prototype; Within The Woods, as part of a full DVD re-authoring.

I first saw this on a bootleg DVD known as the 'Sam Raimi Super-8 Shorts', bought from a US DVD website, which was a compilation copied from a very poor quality Nth generation NTSC VHS tape, which also included; Attack Of The Helping Hand!, The Sappy Sap, Stryker's War, Cleveland Smith Bounty Hunter, Torro, Torro, Torro!, The Blind Waiter, Six Months To Live, as well as a number of other trailers and related pieces.

This DVD had simple nondescript template menus, and my original intention was to re-author Within The Woods onto it's own disc, with specially designed menus and artwork, but this project was superseded by my Sam Raimi's Super-8 Short Films DVD Boxset, and so this DVD cover was the only part of the project which was completed. I used Adobe Photoshop to design the DVD cover, assembled as a 3231px by 2176px image at 600dpi. The concept design was based around a piece of Super-8 film stock. The back image is the reverse of the front, as you would see looking though film cell, with blood spatter on the front which you can see through from the back, and 8mm white film leader used as the spine. Just as an explanatory note; 'Heads' can be written on the leader at the start of a piece of film, and 'Tails' at the other end (sometimes both along with the film's title), which is done so it would be obvious which way round the film is wound on its reel.
