I think that Resurrection was was pretty good (I enjoy entertaining movies, doesn't need to be Oscar material). I really enjoy the whole storyline around the Myers familyline. Keep them coming, if you don't want them, ignore them hehe.
I prefer Halloween Resurrection to Rob Zombie's complete mess of the film. Yes I watched the film illegally but this is because I don't believe in paying for remakes and it hasn't come to the UK yet. The picture quality wasn't that bad, so I can make valid judgments of the movie. I believe I saw the work print version (the better version):
This is what I think of Rob Zombie's Halloween:
The opening scene had acting worse then direct to DVD films, and the dialog seemed as if it was written by a child- the worst sort of exposition I've seen in a movie. However, the first half of the movie worked better then the second part of the movie, and I was surprised at this. However there were still many things wrong with the first half. The music decisions were completely wrong, I mean why did he put the Halloween theme when Michael is running out of the school and his mom in the school office? also the Love Hurts song during his mothers pole dancing scene? what the hell was that about? Not only this but if this film was going for the shock element, it didn't work for me at all because it seemed as if it was pointing at itself like saying "look how shock this is - Michael has photos of dead animals" and all the swear words from 12 year old kids that were from the 70s was out of place- kids were not like that then and the original Halloween is proof of this. Not even teens in the 70s swore that much.
The second part of the movie is probably the worst bunch of scenes in movie history. The scene transitions were awful, there were jump cuts, there was absolutely NO TENSION and no suspense so how are we meant to be scared of Michael when he does something? The teenage girls acted so bitchy there was no way that the audience could like them to invest in their terror. -You wanted them to die, even Laurie. Malcolm McDowell's acting was awful only because he had to work with such a terrible script. And the Michael Myers character was not scary because they had explained everything that happened to him, there was not even a bit of mystery, so why would we be scared of something we are familiar with? Not only this but this film didn't even work as a slasher movie at all, it was more of an exploitation movie. Now sticking Michael Myers into an exploitation movie was a bad idea because it dramatically changed his character. You don't mess with a character that works. It's like Rob Zombie is wanting us to accept that Dracula drinks urine instead of blood and was a poor guy that grows hair on a full moon.
In comparing character evolution to the Friday the 13th franchise, there was even more similarity between the Sack head Jason in part 2 and Uber Jason in Jason X because he had the same motive and style of killing. Furthermore I even think Jason X was better then Rob Zombie's Halloween (even though Jason X is terrible). At least it's a slasher movie. Rob Zombie has proven that he can never make a movie other then rude exploitation trash. He bashes the slasher genre so badly which is no surprise, but guess what Rob, even the lowest slasher movies are better then your lame excuse for a Halloween film. I regard this film as one of the worst additions to a franchise I have ever seen. It makes sh*t like Texas Chainsaw Massacre the Beginning look as good as The Evil Dead.
I rate this movie 1/10 and this is generous, the 1 is only for the scenes that were near the beginning.
The 'Last House on Haddonfield' experiment went terribly wrong.
I apologize if I offended anyone with my opinion....
