I would like to know too. I don't even think Sam Raimi has confirmed that it's in production at all.

Well, I think thats a good thing. The last thing we  need is yet another remake no matter who is behind it. At first I was open too the idea but as of late I can't stand the thought. I just think everyone would rater see something more original from them.

I was actually looking forward to seeing what could be modernised with the original movie. However at the same time i was kinda dredding the moment too.

Overall tho the original could never be beaten so its no loss anyway really.

I agree.

If they are going to give us another ED, I'd rather it be ED IV. Though I must admit I'd also like to see something original from the old gang. Sam needs to gather everyone up (Campbell, Tapert, Becker, etc.)and do a low budget horror film using the cast and crew of ED in some capacity.

I don't think he will though, now that he's hit the big league.

I love remakes, but I will admit I think this one would have sucked.  Lets see #4 already!

kidnap raimi and put him in the basement with a camcorder and some green creamed corn. Likely formula for evil dead 4.

I was lucky enough to meet 'the ladies of the evil dead' a few months ago and they said that they don't believe the remake will ever happen. I know they're not reliable sources but it was quite relaxing to hear. Let's hope Sam will learn that you shouldn't tamper with a classic after seeing the negative reviews that the Halloween remake is already receiving... And hopefully this is the first remake that the fans FINALLY PREVENTED from happening.

I hope this has been scrapped remakes are so run of the mill these days I would rather Raimi and co come up with something new rather than retreading old ground.

i think a remake would be okay as long as it is done right, with seperate characters and set in modern times.  it could be a fun tribute.

Looks as though Sam has put the remake on hold for now, says they are still looking for a director (hopefully they wont find one!)

Same old, same old...

Raimi's Evil Dead Remake Update
Source: Ryan Rotten June 5, 2008

I got a chance to catch up with Sam Raimi this afternoon for a little rumor control.

The director tells us there is still zero movement on the proposed Evil Dead remake that was first announced when Ghost House Pictures was formed. As he told me during our last meeting, he's just too busy focusing on other projects to mull over Ash's return to the screen. "We still want to do it," he says. "We still think it's worth trying and I've still not done a single thing about it."
